Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) October 21, 2012
Today at the 2012 NAHC Annual Conference & Expo in Orlando, Florida, Homecare Homebase introduced the new Integumentary Command Center (ICC), a comprehensive and fully-integrated wound management system easily accessible by caregivers through their industry-leading PointCare Manager, available on the Android platform.
CMS reports that over one third of home health patients are now requiring treatment for wounds and almost half of those have multiple wounds, many stemming from surgical incision sites, diabetic foot ulcers and pressure ulcers.
With more patients in home health adding wounds to their list of health needs it made sense for us to incorporate robust wound management tools into our system, said Shari Heath, VP of Product Development at Homecare Homebase. We worked closely with several beta customers to create an intuitive, visually-driven wound care tracking system that would increase communication pertaining to the wounds within the agency, and with physicians to ensure the best treatments were being planned and followed. The result has been overwhelmingly positive.
The newly-released ICC includes accurate identification of wounds through the use of enhanced anatomical figures that pinpoint the exact placement of the wound. Throughout the tool, clinicians can reference clinical content to assist in assessing, classifying and documenting the wound. Wound care orders from the physician are integrated into the record and all treatment plans are verified through a series of validations to ensure the treatment is appropriate and compliant with orders. Wound flow charts are imbedded in the ICC which provide an easy visual to track the wounds progress over time and to work with physicians in ensuring the most effective treatment plans are being used.
Dr. Michele Carr DPM, RD, CD, AAWPCA, the Clinical Operations Consultant at Encompass Home Health said, We have been very involved in the development of the new ICC and could not be more pleased on the resulting functionality. It directly addresses a critical need for our agency. As the number of patients requiring wound care increases, our clinicians require the knowledge and tools necessary to assess, classify and treat wounds at all stages. The new ICC allows them to do this with more confidence and ensures they not only have the reference and documenting tools required to treat wounds, but the ability to work with patients, their families and physicians to set the best course of treatment. This powerful new tool will ultimately lead to better outcomes.
