Hotels in Washington, D.C., the nations capital, boast, on average, the best ratings in the United States. Thats the takeaway of a recent survey by CheapHotels.org. The study compared 30 destinations in the United States and Canada based on the overall quality of their hotels.
In coming up with its results, the survey compiled evaluations the various hotels have received over the past 12 months from customers following their stays. To ensure the many destinations were as comparable as possible, only 3-star hotels located centrally within their respective destinations were considered.
Hotel reviews were aggregated from the two leading hotel-booking sites: Expedia and Priceline. Each review was then categorized as positive, neutral or negative based on its overall star rating.
When the results were tabulated, several trends revealed themselves. The most prominent of these findings was that in Washington, D.C., 73% of visitors were happy with their stays and rewarded their hotel with a positive review. Of the remaining D.C. accommodation reviews, 15% were neutral while only 12% were negative. That ranks the nations capital at the top of all U.S. destinations. One destination in Canada, however, performed even better. In Quebec City, 75% of all travelers have been happy with their hotel stays in the past year.
On the flipside is Miami Beach, Florida. There only 54% of hotel reviews have been positive, with nearly one-quarter of guests expressing disappointment with their hotels. Those figures position Miami Beach lowest among all destinations covered.
The following table shows the five highest and lowest ranked destinations according to the survey. The percent value indicates the percentage of positive hotel reviews each respective city received among all its 3-star hotel reviews over the last 12 months.
